23 Aug Reserve Syrah 13 rated Outstanding – Decanter Panel Tasting
The November issue of Decanter Magazine has rated our Gimblett Gravels Reserve Syrah 2013 as one of only five ‘Outstanding’ NZ Syrahs in their recent NZ Syrah panel blind tasting. 68 wines were tasted. The average score given to it by the panel was 18.75 (highest equal with the other Outstanding wines). The panel’s tasting notes were as follows:
‘Melanie Brown (18.5): Bright, aromatic fruits and bubblegum notes coming through: dark, spicy and rich. Enticing silky texture and wonderful balance; charming.
Christine Parkinson (18.5): Liquorice, truffle and cola along the cherry and blackcurrant fruit. The palate is layered and creamy with plenty of oak, but the fruit shines through. Juicy, generous, sauve and sophisticated.
Philip Tuck MW(19): Attractive lift and extract with pure, spicy black fruit and oak. There is a generosity allied to excellent palate structure that is impressive.’
It’s great to have this result from a U.K. tasting – as we don’t currently sell wine there, it is rare for us to enter wine in a tasting.
