Stonecroft has the oldest Syrah vines in New Zealand. These vines were rescued by the founder of Stoncroft, Dr. Alan Limmer, from the Te Kauwhata Research station and planted at Stonecroft in 1984. For the Undressed Syrah this year. This year the wine is from a small parcel of fruit made up of a blend of two clones of Syrah; clones 174 and 470 and we did not add any sulphur at bottling. No added sulphites and suitable for vegans.

94 points. Fantastic colour - bold, purple and bright. Equally bold bouquet with dark pure fruited aromas of black berry and black currant, dark raspberry jam and sweet meats. Delicate almost fine barrel spices and crushed violets. Complex and interesting. On the palate - juicy, fleshy and fruit centric with contrasting tannins, barrel spices and acidity. Fruit flavours mirror the nose, youthful yet fine tannins with a chalk-like texture, stony soil flavours and a lite lick of salt. Lengthy, balanced and well made. Drink now and through 2025+.
Worth discovering, this rich red is preservative-free (hence the "Undressed"). A wine with a real "wow!" factor, it has notable density of plum, black pepper and liquorice flavours that are smooth and lasting.
91 points. Undressed' refers to the fact that this wine was not fined and had no sulphur addition. A very fruit-forward style with a soft structure that makes it quite accessible now. Raspberry, black-fleshed plum, black pepper, spice, anise and subtle dried herb flavours.
