Stonecroft has the oldest Syrah vines in New Zealand. These vines were rescued by the founder of Stoncroft, Dr. Alan Limmer, from the Te Kauwhata Research station and planted at Stonecroft in 1984. For the Undressed Syrah this year. This year the wine is from a small parcel of fruit made up of a blend of two clones of Syrah; clones 174 and 470 and we did not add any sulphur at bottling. No added sulphites and suitable for vegans.
Colour: Deep ruby red colour.
Aromatics: Dense black fruit together with hints of pepper and sweet spice.
Palate: The wine has ripe bramble berry, raspberry and redcurrant flavours, herb and notes of spice. It has a smooth finish, and soft tannins. Suitable for vegans and preservative free.
Region: Gimblett Gravels Wine Growing District®, Hawke’s Bay.
Harvest: Hand harvested.
Vinification: Fermented in open-top stainless steel fermenters. Hand plunged two times daily. Post fermentation soak for two to three weeks followed by maturation in barrel.
Maturation: Matured in seasoned French oak barrels for 4 months without adding any sulphur (nor was sulphur added at bottling).
Bottled: 16th October 2020.
Analysis: Alc 13% vol.
Production: 150 cases.
Cellaring Potential: 4-6 years.
