This Syrah is a selection of fruit from all three of our vineyards. With this wine we are aiming for a fruit driven wine which is approachable soon after bottling.

Description

Wine

Colour: Deep, ruby red colour.
Aromatics: A fruity bouquet with red and black fruit, lashings of pepper and hints of sweet spice.
Palate: This wine is medium bodied wine, with red and black fruit flavours, a smooth mouthfeel and soft tannins.

Technical Info

Region: Gimblett Gravels Wine Growing District®, Hawke’s Bay.
Vineyard: Roy’s Hill, Mere Road and Fernhill.
Variety: Syrah.
Harvest: Hand harvested during March and April 2018
Vinification: Fermented in open-top stainless steel fermenters. 50% was matured in French oak barrels for 5 months.
Bottled: 10th October 2018.
Analysis: Alc 12% vol.
Fining: Fined with egg.
Production:  1000 cases.
Cellaring Potential: 2-3 years.

Designed for early drinking, this is a vibrantly fruity medium bodied, supply Syrah. Deep ruby, it has fresh, plummy spicy aromas and flavours with savoury notes adding complexity and very good depth and harmony. Certified organic. (North and South Magazine).

Moderately dark purple-hued ruby-red colour with good depth, lighter on the rim. The nose is softly fresh with gently fragrant aromas of blackberry fruit and raspberries, along with subtle notes of fresh herbs, violet florals and a harmonious amalgam of black and white pepper. Medium-bodied, the palate is elegant in proportion with a fine, tight core with flavours of raspberries and blackberries, along with red and violet florals, and white and black pepper. A little herbal detail shows. The fruit is juicy and lush, and balanced by light, supple tannin extraction and some acid freshness, and the wine flows with good linearity to an elegant, lingering finish of raspberries and pepper. This is an elegant, fruit-driven Syrah with raspberry and blackberry fruit, white and black pepper and floral notes on a supple palate. Match with Middle Eastern and Asian fare over the next 3-4 years. Hand-picked fruit from the three estate vineyards, indigenous yeast fermented to 12.0% alc., with 50% of the wine aged 5 months in French oak barrels. 1,000 cases made.
